Adding Product Videos to Product Pages

Alongside the option to add videos to your instant site, Netcash Shop enables you to showcase your products through captivating videos in the product gallery, alongside the traditional product images.

Netcash Shop does not directly host videos. However, incorporating videos into your product gallery is a breeze! Simply upload your videos to popular hosting services like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Vimeo, or any other platform of your choice. Afterward, you can easily add the video link to the product page.

The flexibility of this feature allows you to include multiple videos for a single product, offering you limitless creative possibilities. Plus, there are no restrictions on video size, length, aspect ratio, or resolution. This means you have no restrictions in creating a visually engaging shopping experience for your customers.

To take it a step further, you have the option to make a video the main media highlight for a product. Customers browsing your store will be greeted by the captivating video, drawing them into the product’s story. They can simply click on the product page to play the video and learn more about what you have to offer.

Available on the the Business and Unlimited Plans. Login to your Netcash account to upgrade.

Adding video to your product gallery

You can add your video, or use any other video if you have the rights to do so. If you’re not sure if you have the right to use a video, each platform has its own instructions on how to check the video copyright rules. Check these before you decide to use a video you don’t own.

To add a video to a product:

1. Upload your video on YouTube, Instagram, or any other video hosting, or use someone else’s video if a content creator allows that.

2. Click Share → Copy link or copy the link from the address bar if you are using a browser.

3. Go to your Ecwid admin, Catalog → Products and choose a product.

4. In the Images section, click Add Video:

5. From the dropdown, choose the platform you want to embed the video link from.

6. Paste the link to your video and click Continue to add video.

7. (optional) To change the video preview, click Change thumbnail and choose the image that will be displayed as a video preview:

8. Click Add Video.

9. Click Save.

That’s it. When customers open the product page, they can click on the video and it will open to the full width of the screen. In customers’ browsers, uploaded videos display in either 480p, 720p, or 1080p, depending on the viewer’s connection speed and the resolution of the video. Viewers will be able to change the video quality to their liking.

Updating your privacy policy to show product videos

If your store caters to customers in countries governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), such as Germany and other European nations, there are essential privacy considerations to ensure a seamless video preview experience.

In these regions, customers must accept your store’s privacy policy (cookies) before gaining access to video previews and the ability to play videos. The GDPR extends its application not only to stores physically located within the EU but also to European customers who interact with your platform.

To align with the GDPR guidelines and safeguard your business from privacy law violations, we strongly recommend updating your privacy policy regardless of your store’s physical location. Within your privacy policy, it’s crucial to explicitly state that video hosting platforms may access personal data of your buyers, including their IP addresses, account information on the platform, and user details.

By accepting cookies in your store, customers agree to the policy and will be able to see the video preview and play the video.

Highlight Your Product with Video as Main Media

Increase your product’s appeal by making a video the primary showcase on both your storefront and product page. Here’s how:

1. Access your Netcash Shop admin and navigate to Catalog → Products.

2. Select the desired product and drag the video thumbnail to the top spot in the product gallery.

3. Save the changes, and voilà – your video takes center stage, captivating customers from the moment they visit your store!

Changing product video preview

A video thumbnail is an  image that acts as the preview image for your video, like a book cover. The thumbnail is created automatically by the platform it’s uploaded to. So if the video has a certain preview on YouTube, it will have the same preview in your store.

You may want to change the video preview (or thumbnail). For example, when the video has no thumbnail at all and shows the gray cover, or you don’t like the current thumbnail. You can do that during uploading the video, but you can also replace the cover afterwards.

To add a custom thumbnail after uploading the video:

1. From your Netcash Shop  admin, go to Catalog → Products and choose a product.

2. Hover the mouse over the the video thumbnail that you want to change and click Action, then Change Thumbnail:

3. Click Change thumbnail and choose the image to display as the video cover.

4. Click Apply.

5. Click Save

Choosing the product video look on storefront

When you set a video as the main product media, its preview or thumbnail becomes visible on your storefront. To ensure an appealing display, you can adjust the size and appearance of the product main media on the Design page.

If you use a horizontal (landscape) video as the main media, select the landscape ratio in the Image aspect ratio setting. This ratio is ideal for YouTube or Vimeo videos, ensuring that your thumbnail is visually pleasing on your storefront.

For vertical videos, e.g., from TikTok or YouTube Shorts, it’s best to choose the portrait ratio in the Image aspect ratio setting:

The design settings are applied both to images and videos.

Regardless of what ratio you will use, landscape or portrait, once a customer clicks on the video it will be shown full-size the same way it’s shown on YouTube, TikTok, or any other platform

To adjust the main product media look:

1. From your Netcash Shop admin, go to Design.

2. In the Image size section, choose how big you want to display the main media.

3. In the Image aspect ratio, choose how to show your main media: vertically, horizontally, or square
