Default product sort order
When you add products to your store, the default product sorting is set to “Defined by store owner”. That means you can drag and drop your products in the specific order that you’d like in the Catalog > Categories > Category products page. If you don’t change the order, products are sorted on the storefront based on the date that the product was created by default.Changing product sort order storewide
You can change the default sort order for all product categories in your store at once.
You can select from a few sorting options:
- Manual, based on your own preferences
- Newest product, based on the date that the product was created
- Highest or lowest product price
- Product title, in alphabetical order or reverse alphabetical order
To modify the default order settings:
- From your store admin, go to Settings > General > Cart & Checkout.
- In the Catalog Settings section, locate the Default Products Sort Order settings.
- Change it to your preferred sort order:
- Save your changes.
Now the chosen product sort order is applied storewide. It’s important to note that changing the default sort order DO affect all categories.
If you select any setting other than “Defined by store owner”, and later reorder products within a specific category, the changes won’t reflect on the storefront.
Reorder products within a specific category
When you add products to your store, they appear in the sort order that you’ve selected. By default, products are sorted based on the date that the product was created (new products appear on top). If you want to custom sort each and every product, you may do so by dragging and dropping products within a list.
To reorder products in a category:
- From your store admin, go to Settings > General > Cart & Checkout.
- In the Catalog Settings section, locate the Default Products Sort Order dropdown.
- Choose the “Defined by store owner” setting.
- Then go to Catalog > Categories.
- Click the desired category.
- Go to the Category products tab.
- Drag and drop the products to sort them.
